GoosefootPrints, LLC is a small business focused on analyzing hair samples for physical characteristics (properties), and providing guidance for ingredients, products, and treatments based on those measured properties, informed by chemistry, biology and physics related to hair.

In business since 2013, but we were on hiatus for a few years.

Understanding your hair's physical characteristics helps guide your product-choice and hair-care methods to achieve hair-health or cosmetic goals. Fine, Medium and Coarse hair have different needs, as do Low, Average and High Porosity hair. Hair-care goals can vary depending on the combination of physical characteristics in your hair. Whether you want to save money, simplify hair-care, or make well-informed product choices, knowing your hair's characteristics can help you reach those goals.

After placing an order (collect your hair first so you're ready to go), mail the hair sample to the address provided in the e-mail confirming your order. You'll be notified when the hair sample arrives. Once your sample is analyzed, you will receive a report in electronic format (pdf file) at the e-mail provided.

Report includes: Hair measurements, Photos, and Recommendation Tables based on your hair's characteristics. 

Physical measurements include: Hair width, Elasticity, and Porosity (at different points along the length)  in every analysis. Additional characteristics are documented when present.

Yes! I have experience  with a wide variety of hair types and enjoy helping people solve problems. Any color, natural to neon to henna, and any chemical process is welcome.  I've done over 500 analyses, I'm not here to judge. It is a privilege and a joy to help people solve problems and feel good about themselves. If you have questions - please use the Contact form on the Order page.

If there is a particular issue or change you'd like addressed, let me know. Such as: Hair changes of Perimenopause and Menopause, specific Curl Types, concerns related to a styling method, changes from heat-styling, coloring/highlighting, swimming, or changes that may appear related to a medication or diet or a location-change.

Orders can be placed on the Order page (tab at top-right). Regular price is $45.

If you have placed an order and change your mind, contact GoosefootPrints about a refund. Confirmed but unfulfilled orders are eligible for refunds.

We encourage you to use tracking with USPS Certified mail (without signature on delivery) or USPS Priority Mail. If your sample has not arrived in a reasonable amount of time, contact us .

Hairs are measured with a combination of microscopic assessment and physical testing.

Hair samples will be analyzed by Wendy of GoosefootPrints, LLC.

I wear many hats in my professional life. I have maintained "Science-y Hair Blog" since 2010. I am passionate about sharing applied science in any field I work in.  I also work as an ecologist, which combines biology, chemistry, and relationships between living things and their environments - that is the basis for these hair analyses. I have 16 years experience in microscopy, experimental design, creating and carrying out lab protocols and fieldwork. I have scientific work published in peer-reviewed journals.  I have also worked in the arts.
